Start Menu button in Vista doesn't work

My start button in Vista doesn't work!

I've had a look through the forums and tried the things suggested to
other people (such as regedit and removing none-needed shell add ons)
but nothing has helped.

The button works if set back to classic mode but I really want to avoid
having to live like that or having to re-install Vista.

I've rolled back a week but that hasn't helped - the only software
change I've had is swapping AVG to Avast! - No hardware changes.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Start Menu button in Vista doesn't work

Try removing Avast to see if its not the culprit. Since the Start button
works in Classic, navigate to Accessories, right click Command Prompt, click
'Run as Administrator' at the command prompt, type SFC /SCANNOW to see if it
will resolve any problem with system files and settings.

Re: Start Menu button in Vista doesn't work

1.By using msconfig.exe disable all in HKCU\...\Run and in HKLM\...\Run and check results
2.Import this *.reg file which I attached below + restart
