Exactly so, XP is working fine on the hardware they have and Vista would
be a double expense for many people. It is not just the hardware for
graphics etc, but lack of drivers for things like network hardware.
Whilst much of this is not Microsoft's fault it is still a factor and an
increased cost.
Add to this the cost of re-educating users because things got "Switched
around" and you have a problem you don't need. Had there been some kind
of "Looks just like XP" user interface option things might have gone a
lot different, although networking compatibility would still have been
an issue.
Unfortunately there are still many who have stick up notes saying "Press
this, click on that" and don't really understand the underlying actions
behind their normal job activity, anyone having to do user support would
be inundated. Again, not Microsoft's fault per-se, but still an issue.
