| | Office start menu shortcuts don't work A minor problem but an annoying one... When I first got my Vista PC, I installed Office 2000 on it, but about a week later I removed it and installed 2003. Now, the shortcuts on the all programs part of the start menu work, but the shortcuts that appear on the start menu as 'most used programs' do not work. I assume that for some reason they are looking for Office 2000. When you click on them, nothing happens, no error messages, but the Office program doesn't open. Is there any way I can fix this? I am used to using the most used programs shortcuts and it's very annoying to have to navigate the start menu 20 a day when I didn't used to have to. Right clicking on the shortcut and choosing 'remove from this list' and waiting for the item to reappear does not fix the problem. |

In addition to the other answer. For programs you access frequently...right click and select Add to Quick Launch. If you add many...you may have to unLock the taskbar and stretch that area to make them all visible. But if you keep your Taskbar visible...all of those programs are a single click away |

| | Re: Office start menu shortcuts don't work Good idea... but it didn't work. The new shortcut is also a dud. Which is strange because, as I said, the ordinary shortcut does work. | | Re: Office start menu shortcuts don't work I appreciate the answer but I would really like to stick to the start menu. I use the task bar already and I also use the Address bar, so sticking all my Office icons down there too would leave almost no room for switching between open programs "B. | | Re: Office start menu shortcuts don't work Not sure what you mean by "most used"... If you mean the bottom part of the left side of the Start Menu (Recent Programs), you can delete the dead shortcuts, by right-clicking on them and selecting "Remove from this list". You can also drag shortcuts to the pinned area (top part of the left side) of the Start Menu. These shortcuts will stay there. -- Vista Home Premium 32 SP2 beta http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview http://download.live.com/wlmail "Kieron Capehorn" <kcapehornR'E'M^O,V+E@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:O#4aGZaWJHA.3588@xxxxxx Quote: > I appreciate the answer but I would really like to stick to the start > menu. | | Re: Office start menu shortcuts don't work Simple really, I found Excel.exe in Program Files, made a shortcut to it and dragged it onto the start menu. I just can't work out why Vista can't do something as simple as make a shortcut on the start menu on it's own. It really is a shocking OS "Spikey" <.> wrote in message news:OrmursgWJHA.5108@xxxxxx Quote: > > "Kieron Capehorn" <kcapehornR'E'M^O,V+E@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:%230Bg01aWJHA.4632@xxxxxx Quote: >> Yes, the problem is any shortcut I made wouldn't work >> >> I've managed to find a solution now anyway. >> > Which was?? > > Giving details of the solution will help others watching the thread who > have the same problem. > > ) |
