Vista SP2 Issue?

Don't know whether this is an issue or not, but tonight, I turned on my
computer and in the bottom right corner or the monitor it now says
Windows Vista (TM)
Evaluation Copy. Build 6002

I installed SP2 a couple of days ago, this is the first time it's said this.

Re: Vista SP2 Issue?

It probably says that because vista service pack 2 is not going to be
available to the general public until next just so you know. The beta
version of Service Pack 2 for Vista and Windows Server 2008 is just an
evaluation and Microsoft stressed that the general public should not install
it until it is done being tested but you can download it off their web site.
So that is why it is an Evaluation Copy.

It is there to remind you that you have SP2 Beta installed..

No, you didn't. SP2 hasn't been released, and doesn't exist yet. What
you installed was a test version (a beta version) of SP2.

Sure, because you are now running a test version, or evaluation copy.

In my view, unless you are running it on another non-production
machine, you are playing with fire. The reason it's a test version and
not a released version is that it still has problems, and Microsoft is
looking for reports of more problems. If you have a spare machine to
play around with this and you enjoy that kind of testing, it's fine to
do that. But if you are running it on your only machine, what you are
doing is foolhardy, and could result in the loss of everything you
have.

Re: Vista SP2 Issue?

Thanks for the warning. So far so good.
Answer a question for me without all the indignation. does it not, in the
name of the beta, say SP2?
Going forward; Its (Vista + SP2) running on one of four machines in my home,
and to be honest, it's the most expendible.
It's a Vista Ultimate x64 machine, my gamer.
I installed Vista on this machine in febuary of 07, and it's crashed a grand
total of 3 times in that period.
It's been upgraded a few times. It started off life with two gigs of ram,
was upgraded to four, then eight gigs.
When first installed, it had a Geforce 7900gs for the video, it was then
upgraded to a 9800gt
I even changed out the motherboards after spilling a pepsi on the last one,
no reformat, Vista just took it in stride.
I've been very impressed by Vista thus far, and I fully expect SP2 to
reinforce that feeling.

You're welcome. I'm glad you haven't had a problem, but that doesn't
mean that there isn't one in store for you.

Sorry if consider my message to be indignation. It wasn't meant to be
that at all. It was meant to point out that you are doing a very
dangerous thing, and to warn you of that danger. I was trying to be
helpful, but whether you heed my warning or not doesn't matter to me
at all.

Sorry, I don't know. I don't run betas. Perhaps someone else here can
tell you.

Good, then your risk is considerably less than I had thought it was.

Re: Vista SP2 Issue?

wow Ken, you're a jerk. your post wreaks of judgement and condescension.
you've provided no help to the original poster. your mvp title should be
stripped.

to the OP - i found a forum posting that has the information you need
to remove the watermark. You can read it here:
http://www.joejoe.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=17552

just a note however, you'll need to register (it's free) to download
the attachment required.

cheers

Re: Vista SP2 Issue?

Where does MS give you any indication that you will be installing a
'evaluation copy'? How many people ACTUALLY read the entire EULA to find
this out? Why doesnt MS just say that this is an evaluation copy rather
than a 'beta'? I installed SP2 as well and unless I have a real problem
with it saying like your copy is invalid than I have no problems with
it. But it would be nice if they just told the truth and said that in
the beginning instead of everyone coming here (obviously) and saying
'why does my vista say evaluation copy now'? after already downloading
and installing it with NO indication of it being a test (evaluation
copy)

The fact that it is available on many sites to download is fact that
they are basically saying it is 'safe for the public' to download, and
everyone trusts MS right?

LOL

Where do they say anywhere on any of these sites 'download at your own
risk'. If you can't trust Microsoft then who can you trust? Unless I get
some serious problems in the next few days with my PC I'll take my
chances with the SP2 'beta'.

Just my 2 cents worth.

You're a moron.

It's officially released ONLY by Microsoft. Copies found elsewhere
are not "officially released" copies, they're leaked.
