| Guest | Installation hangs - Please help!!! I have installed Vista 4 times now (2 times from the network and 2 times from CD) but everytime when it get to "Completing installation", it reboots and then the screen goes blank. I left it that way for an hour or so and then tried to reboot. Not it says that "an error was encountered or it was shutdown.... so i can restart my installation" Can anybody please help?? |

| Guest | RE: Installation hangs - Please help!!! (Saw your post on WUGNET but I haven't a password for that...) You mention a Toshiba Satellite - is that an M40? If so, others have had the same problem but there is a workaround for it. Boot from the Vista dvd, choose install, then repair. Cancel the startup check, then choose the advanced repair options, then Command Line. From there you can delete (or rename, but that doesn't always work) the PCMCIA.SYS file in Windows\system32\drivers and windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\pcmcia.inf_539d553e [numbers may vary according to the build you are using]. | Guest | RE: Installation hangs - Please help!!! Hmm, the A105 is a much newer model (described as Vista-ready?) and so the problem may be something totally different... The pcmcia driver causing the problem on the M40 is Texas Instruments PCI-xx21/xx11 CardBus Controller with UltraMedia. If yours is the same it might be worth a try. NOTE: If you have just finished re-installing XP it really would be a good idea to leave XP alone and make a new partition for a dual-boot XP/Vista set-up. As you will have to replace Vista when it is officially released it is easier to keep it separate. (sorry if I'm stating the obvious or you have other reasons.) | Guest | RE: Installation hangs - Please help!!! Oh, and I think the SD card reader piggy-backs on that, but I don't know the driver details. | Guest | RE: Installation hangs - Please help!!! No, I think SD has to do with the smart card reader on the front edge, and I thought that was also Texas Instruments like the pcmcia slot but can't find the details. The sound card (on mine, SoundMax Integrated) downloaded and installed the driver automatically when I first went online. "Installation hangs" wrote: > Is SD - sound? | Guest | RE: Installation hangs - Please help!!! I had the same problem a short time ago. but I have solved it already Here are my suggestions 1.format your destination partition. 2.begin your installation not in the Windows but before it(use boot from CD-ROM) 3.take away as many plugs on your mother board as possible(especially in the PCIs) but be careful. If you use a dual boot and begin the installation immediately after the formating without going to XP even once , the partition name in vista WOULD NOT MATCH THOSE IN XP. for exmple ,if my XP is in the C patition and I install vista in E. The vista will call the partition where it is installed Partition C and the original C and D would be D and E etc. More information from www_zj30@126.com (email) |

| Guest | Vista hang, stalls or freeze is your hard drive plugged into a SATA 2 socket. windows vista really hates them. i've reverted back to a standard SATA socket and changed the settings to non-RAID in the BIOS and vista starts every time without and hangs, stalls or freeze. Plus, up-to-date graphics drivers are ESSENTIAL. try running vista in safe mode to update. lots of people say safe mode runs fine.
