Slowness

Hi! I just recently installed VISTA RC1... after a successful install, tried
to boot up Vista and it took a huge amount of time for it to load... for
example, on the sign on screen, i cant do anything on it until after about 5
mins then i see the cursor start to flash and is waiting for me to enter my
password... once it's on the desktop... same thing happens if i click on
anything.

My system is a P4 dual core @ 3G, 1Gig memory... installed it on my backup
HD (40Gig), nVidia 256 video card and sound blaster audigy.

Is there anyone else experiencing the same? Any advice would me greatly
appreciated.

Re: Slowness

You might want to try unplugging any USB devices before booting. Are you
using using a RAID setup? How does XP run on that computer?

I have a Gateway P4-2ghz computer with 1.4 gb of RAM and a USB scanner and
USB 250mg Zip Drive. This computer boots quite fast.

Re: Slowness

I am running build 5728 and previously 5600 (RC1). I experienced a similar
problem when I tried to boot with a usb jump drive installed. Only
difference was that my machine would hang at boot and never even to vista
login. I removed the jump drive and all is fine.

Re: Slowness

Go to "Performance" in Vista, via the Control Panel and have Vista evaluate
your system's hardware and software. It'll tell you what programs are slowing
Vista down. Also, Defrag using Auslogics. It's free. Let us know what happens.

I have just the same event on one of my computers after I've updated pre-RC
to RC1. Nothing could resolve the problem, but more - now it takes place in
90%
loads only. I think it is necessary to change HD for absolutly new one and
update
mainboard BIOS.

re-install the whole thing but is still the same... getting frustrated now.
