Opening Word Documents in Works 8.5

I am trying to open Word documents in Works 8.5. When I first had difficuties I installed the Works Translator for Office Formats off the Microsoft site. I then can open them successfully when I have the specific application open e.g. Word Processing.

When I try to open a document from Windows Explorer I get the same error I had before, that the file may be corrupted etc. My assumption was that it was a Works patch and I am wondering if this is how it is supposed to work. I would assume that Works would be smart enough to send a .doc file to the Word Processing application after installing the Translator.

Has anyone had this experience? Am I stuck or can it be corrected?

Thanks in advance,

George

It may be the new docx format from Office 2007 and you may need additional
add-ons for that.

I don't think that is the problem. The documents all date for 1999 to 2005.

Thanks

I suspect you'd find it a lot simpler to simply install OpenOffice.org.
It's a free highly compatible office suite - reads and writes MS office
files and also industry standards.

Don't you mean you installed it for another patient in your asylum?

MS office files are Industry Standards. DUH. No wonder why you use Open
Sores software.
