Vista on a slow computer

FYI:

I just installed RC1 build 5728 on my new Dell D420 laptop, and it runs fine
for Internet, Word, and Excel usage.
By "runs fine" I mean that the laptop has very good performance for its
intended usage.
Note that Aero Glass works.

Dell D420 :
Is a Centrino laptop
Slow CPU: Core Solo T1300 at 1.06 Ghz (that is 1.06)
RAM: 1.5G of DDR-533
Slow hard disk: 4200 rpm (IDE, not SATA)
Video uses shared memory (Aero Glass works with it)

Vista found all components except for the modem, which I do not use.

I left Dell's installation of XP Home on the hard disk and installed Vista
into a vol in an extended partition created via Partition Magic v7.01 via a
floppy boot.

BTW I wanted a low performance laptop to get maximum battery life: I get 7+
hrs of usage with Dell's 9 cell battery. The D420 is a strongly built
ultra-portable, and is exactly what I wanted. Very impressive laptop.

Well just goes to prove that 'low performance' _doesn't_ have to mean cheap
nasty and inadequate. You've got well designed components there which are
designed to run comfortably at that speed.
