| | Vista 32bit VS 64bit I have bought a new HP computer with windows vista 64bit. Now I found out that my older euipment and programs don't work on it. I am considering to exchange it for a vista 32bit system. What are your thoughts between 32bit and 64bit (apart from the point that some people think Vista does not work at all...)? Should I return this computer? Grt, M |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Vista 32bit VS 64bit Hello Marnix, The articles in this post can help explain the differences betwenn 32-bit and 64-bit. 64-bit: More than just the RAM In your case, unless you wanted to upgrade your older equipment and programs, you might contact HP to see if you can get the 32-bit version of Vista for a reduced price through them. This way you will have both versions if you want to use either one on your computer in the future. Otherwise, an exchange would do the trick. | Vista Home Premium x32 | Re: Vista 32bit VS 64bit heya, im currently upgrading to vista x64 mainly for the reason that i have 4gb of ram, and 32bit only supports 3gb, therefore in my case my computer would be signifcantly faster if i were to upgrade. Likewise if your machine has more than 3gb of ram it would be a small bit slower Have you had a vista machine before? and if so did those programs work on it? I definitely had problems when i moved up from xp that a lot of my programs didnt work. A general quick fix way for old programs is to run the compatibility wizard, simply go to the start menu, click "Help and Support" and then in the search box at the top type in "compatibility wizard" and click "Start compatibility wizard" Its a simple easy to use process that dug me out of a lot of holes |

| | Re: Vista 32bit VS 64bit Contact HP or the vendor who sold you the computer and ask if you have "downgrade rights". If you have Vista Business or Ultimate you have downgrade rights to XP, but you should at least have downgrade rights to Vista 32-bit. Some of the vendors like Wal-Mat have a no questions asked return policy. If you are still within the time period that might be less trouble than downgrading the computer to a system that works for you. Microsoft is pushing manufacturers to pre-install Vista 64-bit because it is "better". You may have trouble finding an equivalent computer with 32-bit preinstalled. If you like the computer I would recommend asking about downgrade rights first. You might not be able to find an acceptable one with 32-bit.
