network hard drive /usb drive

hi,i have just baught a buffalo 500gb nas drive which has installed ok ,it
has a usb port in the back so i can connect a usb hard drive, which i have
done this seemed to work perfect until i tried to set up a auto backup to the
usb drive .i keep on getting various eror messages ,"you do not have
permission "or "network name cannot be found "or sometimes "backup failed due
to a I/0 fault 0x8007045d .When the drive was installed it mapped itself as
drive m and the usb as L but it also created a folder on the m drive called
"usbdrive1" i have tried unmapping drive L and just using the folder that had
been created but still cannot get any backups to work all i get is a series
of empty temp folders .Can anyone give me any advise on setting up the drives
or point me to a blog that will help.
i am using vista h/p
vista backup and restore
buffalo500gb nas drive
seagate 500gb usb drive
any help will be appreciated thanks

RE: network hard drive /usb drive

update:-ok i have now disconnected the mapped usb drive ,deleted the usb1
folder created in the share folder of the nas drive then re-formatted the usb
drive using the utility in the web admin of the nas drive result is i can now
do a full backup but all i get is empty temp folders 32approx which get added
to every time i backup . If i map the usb drive then i don't have ownership
of it so dont get any write permissions and cannot find any way to change it
hope this has clarified things a bit
