| Guest | Vista not responding After leaving my computer on for about an hour (varies greatly every time) programs stop responding. if i try to open another program it either doesn't open or opens and stops responding as soon as it does. I can't shutdown the programs in task manager because when i hit ctrl+alt+del it either does nothing or i see my background and a message titled "logon has failed to create security options dialogue" with the message "failure - security options". This is a very annyoing problem which i have no idea how to fix. I have a Athlon 64 3500, 1GB RAM, AC'97 audio (GAK8NF9 mobo) 2 160 GB segate hdd's and an ATI Radeon x850xt. |

| Guest | Re: Vista not responding Hi Tim I think your problem may be with the default power settings. Go to the Control Panel/Power options. Select Put the computer to sleep. Then click Never. The hibernate and sleep facilities in Vista are a wee bit erratic. Regards David Clarke. |

| Guest | Re: Vista not responding I am having exactly the same problem and it is maddening. The complete text of the error box is this: Failure - Security Options -- Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. This is when I try to get to Task Manager by pressing CONTROL-ALT-DELETE. If I right-click the taskbar and choose "Task Manager," I don't get an error message, but Task Manager never starts, either. Basically, nothing happens. Programs stop responding, Everything starts going very slowly, and I can't even shut down without a hard reboot (turning off the power switch). I never had this problem with any previous beta, only with RC2 (build 5744). This is horrible. I don't know if maybe I should try a system restore with an autosaved restore point from a few days ago? I only started having the problem within the past 2-3 days. I am constantly having to shut off the computer and turn it back on. This is completely unacceptable OS behavior :P. I thought Vista was supposed to have *improved* stability. Someone suggested that this had something to do with the power saving features of Vista. I can definitely contradict that claim. I have my settings set to never shut off hard disks or monitors, never allow hibernating, etc. Still, I have this problem. Anyone have any suggestions? >>>After leaving my computer on for about an hour (varies greatly every time) programs stop responding. if i try to open another program it either doesn't open or opens and stops responding as soon as it does. | Guest | RE: Vista not responding ok guys, i got it figured out, id be willing to bet you are all running Pc Cillin virus??? well i disabled mine in safemode via MSconfig, and now my system is fine, so the problem is that program, i went to uninstall it and there is an error, so i am assuming one of the automatic updates was bad, i aslo recall that my last auto scan pc cillin did froze up on me and after that my problem started.. let me know if this helps! | Newbie Rep Power: 13 ![]() | THIS IS THE SOLUTION TO THE PC-Cillin conflict which causes the "failure-security options" error message and the system freeze. I am running a Dell 4XPS410 with Vista and it is one month old. You have TWO FIREWALLS operating. PC-Cillin and Vista both have open firewalls. Get into your security settings and disable the VISTA firewall and all will work normally. I suffered with this problem for a month - waiting for a solution to appear in some forum. I finally called Dell and a tech rep named Dan (in Canada) remotely logged on, found the issue and corrected it. |

| Guest | Re: Vista not responding After getting the dreaded 'Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog' my pc totally locked up. I couldn't get into task mgr. or anywhere else. Every time I shut it down it resumed in the same state. Finally took battery out & put back in. Good for now.-- princessdi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ princessdi's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=36650 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=598494 http://forums.techarena.in |
