| x64 | old vs new character codes Hello, I need help please. I just bought a new laptop that works with Vista and there is something different about the character codes, compared to XP. Apparently the codes have changed for the vowels with accents, I do not know if anything else has changed. For example the "á" was alt+160, now it is alt+0225. The rest of the vowel codes followed the 160's except for the "é" which was alt+130, and now is alt+0233. I'm going to go crazy if I have to memorize the new codes... Could somebody please help me??? |

| | Re: old vs new character codes No, the codes are the same. You need to read the User's Guide that came with your new laptop to learn how to enable the notebook's numeric keypad. | x64 | Re: old vs new character codes Hi Carey, Thank you for your prompt reply. Sadly, I am using the numeric pad on my laptop and the same codes are bring up different icons from what I need. I have to press fn+alt+#### to get the characters but unless I use the long codes, I can not use the codes I'm used to. Any other ideas? |

I find that I can type "áíóúñ" using the "NumLk" key on my Vista Dell laptop and left Alt+160, 161, etc. Alt+225 is "ß". My German teacher would be proud! It looks to me as if there is nothing wrong with Vista in this respect, but a problem with either your laptop or with your numeric keypad. Both long codes and short codes too work on my Dell. | | Re: old vs new character codes The codes work fine on my HP Vista laptop with numlock turned on - fn+scroll. á = Alt+160 or Alt+0225, ex. = Alt+130 or Alt+0233, etc. Those are the same codes as XP.
