| xp | Access to Com1 I have an XP machine linked (via a hub) to my Vista machine. I have mapped the XP and from Vista can see it. The program I am 'calling' on the XP machine writes to a proper Com1 port which connects to a barcode printer. When I run my barcode prog from the XP all is fine because of course it sees the com1 port, but when I run the software from Vista (via the mapping letter), of course it tries to write to its own Com1 (wherever that is). Can I redirect Vista's Com1 to my XP's com1 so that I can use my XP machine as the 'printer' writing to its Com1? The vista IP is 192.168.1.1 and the XP is 192.168.1.2 |

| xp | Re: Access to Com1 Hi Dan, I think you may have received my reply already! I realised that the answer to my problem lay not in port redirection but in rethinking how the program should work! Make the XP print program a service. Send it a document to print and let it (locally) do the job which it does (well!) Less clunky than my original idea, like yours, of re-directing the Vista port, and certainly more reliable. Thanks for your suggestion which I tried (though without success). Cheers Richard |
