Vista - Unexpected shutdown

I've had an Ultimate instillation of the 64x RC1 since it was first released,
and I've had a fairly decent experience with it, except for one thing. I can
use vista for hours on end, and as long as it stays active there aren’t any
problems. However, when I leave my system running idle for a few hours it
will shutdown. When I reboot there is no indication that windows encountered
an error, and the log files show nothing. Is there an automatic shutdown
feature that I'm unaware of, or is this a more serious problem?

Those are not shut downs, they are your system going into sleep mode.
Check the power savings features for more details and the ability to
customize.

I don't think that this is sleep mode because when I turn my computer back
on, it has to do a complete startup. The splash screen for my mobo is
displayed, and I have the option of entering the bios. All the applications
I had open before I leave my computer are no longer running, and programs I
have set to run at startup (msn, sidebar etc. ) are re initialized. It is as
if I had turned my computer on after a normal shutdown, the only difference
is that while it is booting it does not prompt me to choose between vista and
xp like it normally does, it goes strait to the vista gui boot screen

In that case it sounds like your Power Savings Mode on the computer may not
be fully compatible with Vista at this time.

You may have to change your power savings mode to ACPI or a ACPI-compliant
mode. Its also possible you have (or the machine builder) defined a
different G state than Vista would typically use in Sleep state (its USUALLY
S1 or S2).

All of this is accessible or SHOULD be accessible in your system's machine
BIOS configuration.
