Calling All Techs...Internet Problem

I work for both a computer repair shop in Vermont (part-time) and an
internet
service provider, both of which are having customers call in and tell us
that their
internet is no longer working, yet their nic shows connected and they can
ping
yahoo, google, etc with successful replies. NO browsers work.

12 calls now within the past 24 hours.

-Cleared arp cache using dos method
-reset security settings and advanced ie settings
-completed winsockfix
-flushed dns cache
-checked/emptied hosts file

It effects wired and wireless connections, produces no errors within
browsers,
just blank white window. Latest Mcafee and Norton definitions in place with
all
the latest windows updates.

Thanks in advance, good luck!

Did you take a hard look at the above. What happens if their live scanning is
disabled.

This could mean network problems, such as DNS or router failures, beyond the
control of the user. They will clear, but there would be nothing you could
do to address the symptoms.
