| Vista Home Premium 64bit SP2 | User account name wrong displayed Hi I want to create a new user account and something isn't working very well. Via configurationscreen --> user account I try to create one and that part works normal, but when I go to Explorer I don't see the folder with that new username on it. I've tried it as administrator, and with a different account but with no success. Does anyone have a solution for it? Best regards Carlo (Vista Home Premium 64bit sp1) |

Best regards Carlo (Vista Home Premium 64bit sp1) After you have created the new user account for the first time, you will need to log on to that new account first for Vista to create the C:\Users\(user name) folder and setup that account's desktop. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit SP2 | Re: User account name wrong displayed Hi Shawn Thanks for your help and your feedback. The information that you provided cured my problem. I have another question in the same area. My standard user account is wrongly displayed. In Explorer it shows C:\Users\User instead of C:\Users\my name. I tried to change it via the configurationscreen but the changes won't take effect after altering. I can type my desired name for that account, but afterwards it doesn't appear so in Explorer. And this is my account where I'm usually log in with, so your previous described method won't help in this case. Do you have any other suggestions? Best regards Carlo |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User account name wrong displayed Carlo, The C:\Users\(User Name) folder cannot be renamed. You can rename the account, but it will not change the user folder name, then both user names are associated with that account. The only way to rename the C:\Users\(user name) folder is to create a new account with a name that has not been used with the other one, then delete the old user account. ![]() Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit SP2 | Re: User account name wrong displayed Hi Shawn Before I do anything I want to know a few things. 1) is it possible after deleting this account and SAVING the content of that usernames folder to the desktop, to copy everything into a new account with the correct username and keep every setting? (desktop settings, folder settings...) I spend many hours in adjusting everything to my needs and preferences, and I just want those settings to be taken over in that other account without any loss. 2) before doing any damage, is it possible to copy content of the account I want to delete to another account without deleting the account. And than when everything seems ok than delete the account I want to be deleted. I'll wait for your answer before commencing, regards Carlo |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User account name wrong displayed Carlo, You can copy all of the contents of the old C:\Users\(user name) folders into the new accounts corresponding folders to retain most settings, but you will not be able to retain all of them though. ![]() Yes, I would wait until after you have everything copied over to the new account and have verified all is ok before deleting the old user account. |
