My new xps 420 has a feature called data safe. I have one hard drive
installed. The control panel shows another drive called "recovery" and data
safe assure me that if a drive fails, the recovery device will allow me to
recover lost data. If a disk crashes, doesnt this destroy all the data?
Essentially I just dont understand haow "data safe " works. can some one

Re: data safe

Have you looked at data safe at the Dell web site? It appears to be an
online backup. In other words, you store your data at Dell.

Re: data safe

Hi Leo Kline, the Dell data safe is an online feature which will help you store your data online. You will have to login to Dell DataSafe Online Backup & Sharing and you can transfer all your data onto an online datastore. If you do not have the username and pswd, contact Dell's tech support at 1-800-624-9896.
Whereas, on your Computer, the Recovery partition contains an image of your computer as the way it was shipped to you by Dell. Incase of system failure, you can restore your computer to factory settings, as the way you had it on the day 1.
You can access this recovery drive by tapping F8 on Dell logo and select Repair Your Computer. It would be named as Dell Factory Image Restore. However, you should not install or add anything to this drive.
