| Vista Ultimate x86 32-Bit | Microsoft Street & Trips & NTVDM CPU Illegal Operation - HELP! Hello. I need your help. I have Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 installed on my computer. One of the programs I have installed is Microsoft Streets & Maps 2007. I have no problems installing this core part of the software. At the conclusion of the core part of the software being successfully installed, I get the part that I elect to select the option "Install Windows Live Local for Outlook after Streets & Trips is finished." When I do and proceed, I immediately get a message that is titled, "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem". It states, "C:\Users\TROY\AppData\Local\Temp\LEO_SE~1.EXE The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal operation. CS:11ee IP:63 74 0d 0a 20 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." What is going on? I need to get this part of the software installed. Now, I have installed Streets & Trips as a fresh install in the past on same previously installed operating system electing this option to install Windows Live Local for Outlook. I received no issues installing the Windows Live Local option at that time. This time I did. I have read online that Windows Vista does not support 16bit programs from a few sources. Yet, some users say that Vista does support them. Well, if I have been able to install the optional program before without any issues, than I know Vista can. I need your help! Please help me! Please provide me the steps in detail on how to overcome this issue so I can successfully install the entire software again. Thank you!!! |

A web page titled "Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program" located at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324767 might help. If you are running a 64bit version of Vista, then a 16bit installer is not supported. | Vista Ultimate x86 32-Bit | Re: Microsoft Street & Trips & NTVDM CPU Illegal Operation - HELP! Hello Gary. Thanks for your response. This Microsoft Support Article is for Windows XP and not Vista. Method 1 uses a i386 file/folder that is only applicable to Windows XP -- totally dead in the water with this method. Method 2 was looking more promising, but when I try to run the command C:\Windows\repair , I get only a message that states, "Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\repair'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." This second method sounds like it's only applicable to Windows XP too. Any other suggestions? This is where Windows Vista fails miserably in terms of fixing the operating system compared to the numerous opportunities that Windows XP has to repair itself. The old Recovery Console did a lot to help you too! I ran a few times System File Checker and still when I re-install the software, I still get the 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem error message. Please reply anybody. Thanks! A web page titled "Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program" located at Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program might help.
