| | corrupt DLL Vista Home Premium My PC has been freezing recently. EventID gives an error about the time of the freezing with reference to srrstr.dll. I have found a number of sites noting a corruption of this file can cause freezing. I would like to update my file but can find no download on a site I TRUST. Couldn't find it on the MS site (of course, I'm an old guy and not too techy). Where can I find a safe copy of this file? |

My file version is 6.0.6001.18000. Given you instruct me to use the same version I have, what now? |

My srrstr.dll is version 6.1.7000. Do you have SP1 installed ? The other files at 5xxxx are XP vintage. You can't move, delete or rename the dll as it is owned by TrustedInstaller and is a protected system file. What about trying the System File Checker, ' sfc /scannow ' from a command prompt. Details here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 (Although, every time I try this tool it reports enigmatic problems it says it can't fix. It works for some people .) |
