corrupt DLL

Vista Home Premium

My PC has been freezing recently. EventID gives an error about the time
of the freezing with reference to srrstr.dll. I have found a number of
sites noting a corruption of this file can cause freezing.
I would like to update my file but can find no download on a site I
TRUST. Couldn't find it on the MS site (of course, I'm an old guy and
not too techy).
Where can I find a safe copy of this file?

Very good, but unless I read it wrong, this comes at a cost of ~$30.
I would hope there is a site with a copy of the file I need.

Here you go J.
I`ve just D/loaded it to my Desktop, so I know it works.
http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-.../download.html
And I`ve scanned it with AVG.

If it matters, the file version you and meerkat have made available
starts with "5. blah blah." My file version is 6.0.6001.18000.
Given you instruct me to use the same version I have, what now?

I did a search on my PC. Found 7 of these. I have one other srrstr.dll
with the same date, file size, and version (c:\windows\winsxs\ . . . ).
Can I just copy/paste the second one to system32?

My srrstr.dll is version 6.1.7000. Do you have SP1 installed ?
The other files at 5xxxx are XP vintage.
You can't move, delete or rename the dll as it is owned by TrustedInstaller and is a protected
system file.
What about trying the System File Checker, ' sfc /scannow ' from a command prompt.
Details here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

(Although, every time I try this tool it reports enigmatic problems it says it can't fix. It works for some people .)

System Restore is corrupted. Reinstall System Restore to correct this issue

I'm baaaack. Found DL Replacer
http://www.ghoztcraft.net/forums/DLL...er-t14764.html
but it claims to be used with 2K and XP. Is this OK or is there a Vista
version.
