RC1 BSOD on 1st Mid Install Reboot

I got a BSOD on the first mid install reboot when attempting a clean install
of RC1 (5600) onto an old PC.

The PC is a highly modded Dell XPS 450T with Intel 1.2GHz Celeron, 768MB
RAM, Toshiba CD+DVD R+W, 3 hard disks (20GB, 80GB, 250GB), 3com Ethernet
card, SiL 100Mbs IDE/ATA controller, ASUS 9520 GPU, and ESS sound card.
Actually, come to think of it, the only parts from the original Dell build
are the MoBo, FDD, PSU and case!!

Upgrade adviser says the install would be Ok, but it reports that the ESS
sound card is not supported. It also advises to check online after the
install to get a new driver for the 3com Ethernet card.

At the start of the install I need to "Load Drivers" for the SiL IDE/ATA
card in order to target the hard disk. (I used the 20GB one).

Regards,
AndrewFG

Re: RC1 BSOD on 1st Mid Install Reboot

Hi,

Details of the BSOD message would be helpful.

As you know the sound card and nic aren't fully supported, try disabling
them in the BIOS while setup runs. Disable any BIOS antivirus detection
schemes as well.

Re: RC1 BSOD on 1st Mid Install Reboot

The BSOD is caused by my DVD drive. It seems that the downloaded ISO file
does not produce a readable DVD. Whether that be due to a bad image, a bad
download, bad media, or incompatible burner software, I can't say. And
frankly I can't be bothered to waste any more time on it...

I am STILL waiting for the physical DVD in the post. => I do hope that
Microsoft will send this soon.

AndrewFG

Re: RC1 BSOD on 1st Mid Install Reboot

Ask someone with a really good DSL or ADSL connection to download and burn
the image for you. I had no problems downloading the ISO, took me about 1
hour and 35 minutes.

This is not the solution/problem; I downloaded it at work with a fibre
connection...
