Setup can not run vista RC1 setup on XP pro?

Im trying to upgrade from XP Pro SP2 to Vista RC1. I downloaded it last
night and burned the ISO using Nero 6.6. I ran Vista Upgrade advisor and it
found no problems and conflicts. When I insert the DVD, a message
immeaditley comes up saying, "Setup can not run on this version of the
Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install
media." I tried doing that, but could only do a clean installation rather
then an upgrade. How do I get a vista upgrade from XP?

Thanks, Tom

Did you download the correct version, meaning 32 bit or 64 bit, for your
computer?

Re: Setup can not run vista RC1 setup on XP pro?

I have a AMD Athalon 64 3700+, but am running standard XP Pro - i.e. not the
64 bit edition. However, I downloaded Vista RC1 64 bit edition. Could that
be my problem? Can I not upgrade a 32 bit windows copy to a 64 bit edition?

Re: Setup can not run vista RC1 setup on XP pro?

I am not certain. I would be amazed if you could, as absolutely everything
about the O/S you have now on your computer is different.

Re: Setup can not run vista RC1 setup on XP pro?

Uh-huh!

Running this computer on a 32 bit OS (XP Pro retail) allows from the OS an
opportunity to Upgarde or Custom install to 32 bit Vista.

Trying to install 64 bit vista means inserting the media and booting from
CD/DVD on startup.

In other words 32 bot XP Pro goes to Vista 32 bit and 64 bit but the routes
to get there are slightly different.

BTW: both rock!

(XP pro, Vista 32 and Vista 64 running on this machine from options
presented at startup)

Re: Setup can not run vista RC1 setup on XP pro?

64-bit can only install by booting the disk and doing a clean install,
upgrading is not supported.
