| | Re: Use Ultimate disc to install Home Basic/Premium? Actually all versions of Vista are on the same DVD; however, to install basic/premium you need a basic or premium product key. As this is only for one machine MS do not do volume licensing (you need 5 or more machines to get a volume licensing discount), therefore you would need to buy a new copy of either Vista Home or Vista premium. -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | | Re: Use Ultimate disc to install Home Basic/Premium? Hi, Elliot. Just boot from the DVD and run Setup. When it asks for the Product ID, type in the number that you have for Home Premium and press Enter. Post back if you have a problem and tell us exactly what you did and what you saw. "Tried it" doesn't tell us much; neither does "didn't work". Step by step details are what help us help you. RC -- R. C. | | Re: Use Ultimate disc to install Home Basic/Premium? While each version of Vista is on the DVD it is the product key that defines which version is ultimately installed. So juts go ahead and install it and put in the product key for home or home premium. If you skip the product key, opting to insert the product key later, and then press OK you should see a list of available versions; however, you need to choose the relevant version for your product key. You can then insert the product key after you have installed via, Control Panel>System>change product key number. It is, however, far easier to insert the product key at the start and Vista will install the correct version for your product key. -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is".
