RC2 not as good as RC1 :-(

Very bad results from RC2 here.

I had RC1 running very nicely on my Sony Vaio laptop, with only a few
small niggled, thought I would give RC2 a shot, as I have been seeing
improvements in every build.

However RC2 really is not playin very well on my laptop. I have had blue
screens in ACPI.SYS, the previously working Microsoft NVidia driver
refused to load in RC2, defaulting back to VGA driver, a constant popup
telling me the VGA driver is not compatible with my display adapter (a
message balloon that cannot be cleared, so you have to work around it).

It seems to have settled down slightly, after forcing the NVidia 96.37
driver onto the system, but I have lost transparancy in Aero which I had
in RC1.

All in all, a very bad build... Tempted to wipe it, and go back to RC1,
which was more or less "perfect"...

Did you upgrade or do a clean install.
I will upgrade tonight or tomorrow. It's still downloading now.

Re: RC2 not as good as RC1 :-(

Everything you describe is a video driver issue.
Have you made sure to get the latest Vista compatible video driver?
Have you bugged this to Microsoft and NVIDIA?

Clean install. Have x64 build on my desktop, and it's working well. Just
seems like a crappy NVidia driver in the RC2 build. Still they got a
whole 3 weeks to fix it.... (like that's gonna happen)..

Re: RC2 not as good as RC1 :-(

I lost Aero Glass as well, after installing the 96.33 Windows Vista Driver
from NVIDIA's Website.

The nvidia driver in vista RC2 is newer I think, 7.14.10.9677...so could it
be 96.77 ?

Re: RC2 not as good as RC1 :-(

So, your angst should be directed against NVIDIA, and all the other hardware
manufacturers whose job it is to supply drivers for their respective
hardware. It is they who have to keep current with compatible drivers.

You must be new to computing. This has occurred since the transition from
Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. Many hardware manufacturers are going to take
this opportunity to mothball a lot of their hardware, as they did from the
transition from 3.1 to 95, 95 to 98, 98 to W2K to WinXP.

Get used to it.
