| | Error Msg: Disk Read Error...now new drive not working either My Toshiba Satellite P205-S6287 running Vista froze and would not respond. I held the power button down to shut down. I have been unable to start the computer since. I receive the message: "Disk Read Error. Press Alt-Ctrl-Del to restart" Have done this hundreds of times and nothing. Researched various places as to what to do and cannot come up with a fix. Have used the Recovery Disk that came with it, the Ultimate Boot disc, and several other fix tries...but nothing works. So I threw in the towel and decided to buy a new hard drive. Installed and used the recovery disk that came with the laptop to do a fresh install of Windows Vista. Everything went smooth and it restarted and as it was starting up, the Vista green "Welcome" screen appears and then that's it. The next thing that appears on my screen is black screen across the top half and a bottom half with some kind of color pattern that looks like you'd get with a smashed monitor or something. And that's it. It just hangs there. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on what is going on? Thanks. |

The only other component aside from the hard drive that is replaceable by the end user is the RAM. You can test it, but from your description of the issue I doubt that bad RAM is the cause. It is probably some component on the motherboard, the video, power, the motherboard itself, etc. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ |
