Trouble installing xp

after having vista for a while i realized i should re install xp untill i can
buy the full version of vista but when i tried to install xp it said it didnt
recognize my computer as a windows computer, i really could use some help

Hi,

How are you trying to install it? Certainly not from within Vista are you?
You will need to boot the system with the XP CD and either install to a
volume other than the one containing Vista or format the installation volume
before proceeding. Sometimes it's just as easy to remove the install volume
and recreate it.
