| | Downloads seem to disappear & or not run Have a friend I am trying to help with windows Vista basic IE 8 (had IE7) with problem downloading files which then just do not get saved to disk where it should be (or anywhere for that matter). The user account is has administrator privilages but it seems as if for downloads they do not or at least it acts that way. It is not even running the programs when told to in the download choices. It goes through the normal appearance of downloading and saving the file from the temp folder but then poof is not saved to disk at designated store point. I have used a work around for now by using the Administrator account and can download through that but do not want to expose that account for long. Is there some permission or registry fix for this problem. I have checked all IE settings in control panel but they are all good for downloads. I did install IE 8 to ssee if that would fix problem but still the same. -- Dave G geek in perpetual training |

| | Re: Downloads seem to disappear & or not run One of the first things I tried, even installed a different AV AVG, Had to use Norton unistall tool to get that bugger off the machine since the bundled uninstall progran did not work. | | Re: Downloads seem to disappear & or not run Yes I had tried with no AV and also no Anti-spyware etc. No joy. I believe it is related to some permission with this user, as I stated I believ in my orig message. The adminitrator account can download and save files correctly, however this user account (admin privilages) can not. Do you know what group policy setting would preclude this or other i.e. registry hack? -- Dave G geek in perpetual training "Dave-UK" wrote: Quote: > > > "Dave" <Dave@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:042F4C32-B317-4B56-87D6-E9575DB150AF@xxxxxx Quote: > > One of the first things I tried, even installed a different AV AVG, Had to > > use Norton unistall tool to get that bugger off the machine since the bundled > > uninstall progran did not work. > > > > Any other Ideas out there? > > -- > > Dave G > So have you have tried to download a file with no antivirus running ? > > > |

Toggling this setting disable/enable changes this reg key: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3\1803 It's a dword and is 0 = enable file downloads and 3 = disable file downloads. But if you have checked all IE settings for downloads I don't think that is the answer. Have you tried running IE without add-ons: Start > Programs > Accessories > System tools > Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Or In IE, Tools > Internet options > Security > Reset all zones to default level Or In IE, Tools > Internet options > Advanced > Reset Internet Explorer settings. If that doesn't work how about creating another standard user account as a test. Or a system restore ? |
