RC2 network connection problems to Internet

Testing Vista for the first time, edition RC2 (5744)

The network connection to the internet is however bad - it is on for 10
minutes, then off for 20, etc. its an ULI M526x Ethernet COntroller on an
ASROCK motherboard. Vista's troubleshooting digs up nothing.

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE CONNECTION PROBLEMS?

Re: RC2 network connection problems to Internet

Here's a post I made yesterday as I'm also having network nightmares with
Vista, as well as many others out there.

"Since 5728, I have had some major network problems with Vista. I'm
currently using 5744 (RC2) and am running into the same problems. I have
already reported them. Can anyone help?

Living Room Computer (Computer 1): Windows XP Home SP2
My Computer (Computer 2): Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit 5744 (RC2)
Office Computer (Computer 3): Windows XP Home SP2

Issue #1: When I copy a file onto another computer's network from my
computer, Vista shows the 'calculating time remaining' box and it stalls
out. It acts like it's trying to copy it, but it just sits there on
'calculating time remaining'. If I try to cancel it, the explorer will
freeze up and have to be ended.

Issue #2: When I try to access a file on my computer from another computer,
let's say, Computer 1, explorer freezes up on the XP computer, and the file
will not open. After about two minutes of waiting, explorer becomes
responsive again and it says that it lost the connection to my computer on
the network. When I get back on my computer, Vista completely loses my
Internet connection until I restart my computer.

I really hope they don't release Vista in this condition. Any help? Thanks
in advance."

Update:
I have discovered that I'm able to copy things onto another computer's
network folder when I copy a file from my desktop, but when I copy a file
from D: (which is my music, pictures, etc.) it acts up. Why are there so
many problems with Vista out there that things will work from the desktop,
but not from anywhere else? I've seen quite a few issues about this how
things will work on the desktop but nowhere else.

Travis:

I have noticed your Issue #1, though only with certain types of files
(.cab files in particular). I don't know if this problem existed before
5728 - that is when I first noticed it. Although Explorer freezes, the
Copy is in fact successful.

In my case I was not even able to cancel or shut down the computer -- I
had to power it off. I do not see any difference if the original file is
on the Vista desktop.

I have to say I agree with you - Vista is not ready. Everywhere I look
there are things like this. It may be quicker than beta 2, it may have
more drivers, some bugs may have been fixed, but it is not, IMHO, ready.

Re: RC2 network connection problems to Internet

I definitely agree with you. Vista is not ready yet. I'm still getting so
frustrating at times that I go back to XP for a few hours to cool me down -
like last night. My transfer to the network is not successful. About half
of a picture at most gets transferred over.

Travis:

I do not actually try to use Vista for day-to-day work, so I do not
suffer this frustration. My fraustration is that I cannot view the bug
reports on Connect, even for my own reports.

I am a developer, and my only interest in Vista is testing the
installation and running of my programs. In this tiny corner of Vista I
have found an incredible number of bugs. Most not fatal, but providing a
very negative user experience. Some fixed in 5728/RC2, some not.

Re: RC2 network connection problems to Internet

I've had similiar problems copying files between computers with RC2.

And of course RC2 is "not ready" , that's why it's RC2 and not RTM.
