Vista - white screen

hello all

so recently my notebook (hp pavilion dv6500) has started having issues.every second time or so i log in,after the welcome screen goes away the screen becomes white with an active cursor and stays that way.i can open the task manager but that is all
if the notebook loads properly there seems to be no problem regardless of how long it remains on
does anybody hav any ideas?im pretty desperate

The random nature of the problem indicates a hardware issue, possibly with
the video card or with the connection between the monitor and the
motherboard. Contact HP tech support.
