| | Fixing Task Scheduler 'System: Scheduled Checkpoints' What is the difference between a 'Manual: Restore Point' and a 'System: Scheduled Checkpoint' if any? Because I just had to tinker with the task in Task Scheduler to make it more to my liking I no longer get scheduled checkpoints after midnight if the computer is on--I don't get any scheduled checkpoint. Before I get into more detail of what I recall changing--I know I deleted the default multiple task to also create a scheduled checkpoint at boot or logon--I want to test whether anyone will tackle this problem with me or if it has been handled so many times over the years that the post will just be ignored? Thank you. |

Checkpoints then: Because I just had to tinker with the task in Task Scheduler to make it more to my liking I no longer get scheduled checkpoints after midnight if the computer is on. Before, based on the schedule it looked like a checkpoint was created at 12 midnight every day and any time I turned the computer on. In both cases when the machine was idle but in neither would it wake up if asleep. I deleted the multiple task to create a checkpoint when I turned the computer on (I don't believe this choice ever worked). I added to wake the computer if asleep. I also changed 365 days down to an hour. Now the 12 midnight task doesn't run at all. How do I straighten this problem out? Thanks. |

Thanks. system still creates a checkpoint if none has been created in 24 hours. DDW -- Reply via this group No email please |

It may shed some light on what you are trying to do. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...10(VS.85).aspx Paul "Susan" <UCE@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ma75s4l4ai23317c4r2jvjgpg229dqt723@xxxxxx Quote: > What is the difference between a 'Manual: Restore Point' and a > 'System: Scheduled Checkpoint' if any? > > Because I just had to tinker with the task in Task Scheduler to make > it more to my liking I no longer get scheduled checkpoints after > midnight if the computer is on--I don't get any scheduled checkpoint. > > Before I get into more detail of what I recall changing--I know I > deleted the default multiple task to also create a scheduled > checkpoint at boot or logon--I want to test whether anyone will tackle > this problem with me or if it has been handled so many times over the > years that the post will just be ignored? > > Thank you. |

| | Re: Fixing Task Scheduler 'System: Scheduled Checkpoints' I think this article did help. It mentioned that in Vista a restore point is created every 24 hours since the last restore point. I thought it would create one after midnight regardless of when the last one might have been created manually. Task Scheduler for restore points doesn't seem to include any setup regarding how it tracks the last restore point and counts till the next 24 hours have passed. If I let 24 hours pass then it still creates a new restore point automatically. So basically it is working. I'll have to see next if it will wake the machine if sleeping. Thanks. Having a lot of restore points isn't normally of much use... but if you think you need more, you can always make one manually before shutting down. I actually have a Quick Launch shortcut pointing to a file named createrestorepoint.vbs that I placed in my root directory. It makes creation even easier than it would otherwise be. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/ DDW -- Reply via this group No email please |

I manually woke the machine at 1 AM after it was asleep from 4 PM to 1 AM and discovered a new System: Scheduled Checkpoint. This item is resolved now. What I set makes sense and seems to work as advertised. I only want one a day after midnight and if I miss a day that is okay. I'm ready to move on to something else. |
