| | Internet Explorer 8 in Vista causes Windows Explorer issues I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this? 1. Install IE8 2. Go: Start > click Computer 3. Close that Window. 4. Repeat step 2. Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers? |

| | Re: Internet Explorer 8 in Vista causes Windows Explorer issues I just tried everything you suggested and see no problems. My computer, no matter how it is opened, takes about 1 second. Internet explorer will depend upon the home page you have selected. Using MSN as my home page - about one second. What is the specs on your hardware? It makes a difference. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "Omega X" <Ask.me@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:H1ixl.18814$v8.8515@xxxxxx Quote: >I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once > I removed it. > > Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer > for Vista. > > Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Vista Home Premium SP1 32bit (fully patched) Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHZ 2GB Ram Nvidia 8800GT 512MB 2 Hard Drives, Both Western Digital SATA. I googled this issue all yesterday and today before posting this. There is a growing number of people out there with the same problem. This issue will grow as more people start updating to Internet Explorer 8. Reverting to Internet Explorer 7 fixes the slowness of both the Browser and Windows Explorer. |

| | Re: Internet Explorer 8 in Vista causes Windows Explorer issues Wish I could help you. This is one of those things that a person needs hands on to troubleshoot. There are so many things that it "might" be. They have to be eliminated one by one. I would start by clearing your temporary internet files and by running disk cleanup. Get the simple things out of the way first. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "Omega X" <Ask.me@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:rwjxl.18931$9a.8728@xxxxxx Quote: > Richard Urban wrote: Quote: >> I just tried everything you suggested and see no problems. Reliability monitor opened in 6 seconds rather than 2. The same phonomenum was experienced with XP Home. Called Microsoft. Rep had me 1) delete temporary internet files 2) clear cache 3) re-register Windows Vista DLLs 4) Uninstall IE8 using Microsoft diagnostic tool 5) disable addons 6) try in safe mode with networking 7) reinstall IE8. Nothing worked. Too bad as once opened IE8, Windows Explorer, and Reliability worked fine. The Microsoft rep said the data collected will help them find a fix in the future. In the mean time, I am back to IE7 Lou |

| | RE: Internet Explorer 8 in Vista causes Windows Explorer issues I downloaded IE8 over IE8 RC1 and now have a problem that didn't exist in IE8 RC1. It takes about 3-4 seconds to get to the browser, then another 3-4 seconds before it will open my home page. This did not happen with IE8 RC1. I did a system restore to an earlier date, then uninstalled IE8 RC1 then re-installed IE8 but the same problem still exists. I also disabled all add-ons with no luck. Another problem is I now receive "Internet Explorer has stopped working" every time I go to www.tsn.ca that worked fine until this update. Any suggestions? Thanks Gord PS It hasn't slowed down Windows Explorer Post Originated from http://www.VistaForums.com Vista Support Forums |
