64 bit versus 32 bit

I have installed x86 RC2 on my machine (AMD Athlon 64 64 processor 3000+)
and it appears to be running OK. Should i have installed the 64 bit
version? Will it make a difference?

TIA

Re: 64 bit versus 32 bit

that depends on what other hardware you running and if there are 64-bit
drivers for your hardware. what are your specs?

Re: 64 bit versus 32 bit

Since Vista is still pre-release software and you should not be relying on
it for production or as a primary home system, go ahead and load up x64. It
is evaluation software provided to you so that you can contribute bug
reports and check out your apps and devices. Only 5% of the installed Vista
base is x64 so you will be able to help MS better checking out x64 than x86.

Re: 64 bit versus 32 bit

Hi!

I installed and tried 32-bits RC2 and 64-bits RC2.

Here is my configuration:

Motherboard : ASUS P5N32-Sli Deluxe
CPU : Intel Pentium Dual Core Extreme Edition 3.73 Ghz
Memory : 4 GB
Graphic board : ASUS 7900GTX 512 MB
Hard disk : 2 WD Raptor 10000 RPM : 150 GIG each

With RC2 32-bits :

very fast
once a day, I get BSOD STOP 0x00000127
USB does not work

With 64-bits RC2 :

very very very slow; with Build 5384, it was not so slow
no BSOD
USB works well
everything else is like 32-bits

I run 32-bits because 64-bits is too slow.

Bonne journée! Roger

Re: 64 bit versus 32 bit

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I guessed the 64 bit might be slower than the 32 bit
version. I will stick with the 32 bit for the meantime, andget confortable
with the interface.

Regards

JL

Re: 64 bit versus 32 bit

Actually, 64bit should be faster, but it a hard diff to detect without
metrics.
