| | Start Menu Icons Greetings, I just noticed that the Start Menu icons for Music and Favorites on my computer are just generic folders, but on everyone else's computer, they show customized icons. How do I restore the Music and Favorites icons that appear at the very top of the Start menu? I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. Thanks, Shane. |

| | Re: Start Menu Icons > Read Brink's reply to your first post. I'm having a lot of problems with Windows Live Mail. I posted in this newsgroup, but my posting never showed up, which is why I tried posting again. I tried performing the steps in Brink's reply, and they worked for restoring the Music icon on the Start Menu, but the Favorites icon on the Start Menu is still a generic yellow folder. Is there anything else I could try? Thanks in advance. Shane. |

And seeing your Live Mail problem, sorry I nagged...Bur there are other free newsreaders that are actual newsreaders (with different problems, of course). I now use Dialog, I used to use MesNews, and before that Xnews, and on and on... -- Gene E. Bloch letters0x40blochg0x2Ecom |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Start Menu Icons Hi Shane, I'm happy to hear that you got the Music folder restored. Now lets see if we can get the Favorites folder restored for you. Backup anything you do not want to lose in the Favorites folder to another location for safe keeping. Next, using OPTION THREE in the tutorial below, make sure that the Favorites folder has it's default location %USERPROFILE%\Favorites set for it in the registry. Personal User Folder - Restore Missing Folder Now delete the yellow folder Favorites folder. In the Start menu search line, type "shell:Favorites" (no quotes) and press enter. Restart the computer to apply and have the Favoritesd folder automatically rebuilt and restored. Sometimes you will need to restart 2 to 3 times though to fully apply. When the folder is restored, you can copy back anything that you have backed up from the one you deleted into this one. Hope this helps, Shawn > Read Brink's reply to your first post.
