Desktop icons - Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Another question from me. I have set up my desktop icons numerous times
in the position I want them but unlike XP there doesn't seem to be an option
to lock them in place. Everytime we switch user accounts on the pc my icons
re-arrange - it's driving me nuts!!!! The only other change I've made -
which I've never done before is increased the size of my icons - could this
be something to do with it???

There are programs available that can memorize your icon positions and
restore them when needed. This might serve you well.

I don't recall the names (I don't use them, myself), but you could maybe
Google for "save desktop" or a similar phrase.

Thanks for this Gene. I think I've got it sorted for now but I'll remember
your suggestion for future.

Re: Desktop icons - Vista Home Premium 32 bit

1. I just read the very informative tutorial on "Fences" that backdrop
pointed to - I might use that program just because it's (IMO) very elegant
:-)

2. Yesterday I stumbled onto a couple of links that I had accumulated. One
was, by golly, Fences:
http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/index.asp

The others were these:
http://www.desksave.de/index.php?lang=en
http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http...toprestore.htm

3. Although I have 60 icons on my desktop (I had perhaps 100 in XP!), and
although they get moved around occasionally (e.g., I had to do a safe boot
the other day & that rearranged the icons), I still don't use these
programs. I think that's weird of me, but what the heck :-)

I finally got tired of having to resort my icons when Vista (and XP
to a lesser extent) randomly decided on it's own they needed
re-arranging and I installed a desktop saver freebee.

I got to use it today after coming back from sleep mode... when Vista
decided to delete some icons and move others around... once again for
no apparent reason. A quick click brought me back to working mode.

Here's my theory on my weirdness (this one only, not the others!):

I don't really remember where most of the icons are anyway, so it hardly
matters when they get moved :-)

That's one reason why Fences tempts me over the utilities that just
remember where things are: it creates or facilitates a method of
organization that would be useful for me.

BTW, years ago, I did use one of the desktop memory utilities, but after a
while I came to realize that I had stopped restoring the arrangement.
