Regarding Conficker tomorrow

Should I use my computer tomorrow. I am very afraid of viruses like Conficker. Any
recommendations?

Let me just say that I would share your aprehension. One possibility
would be to use it, just unplug from the internet. This also might be a
very good time to explore Linux by simply booting a Linux Live CD. Won't
intsall anything on the computer - simpley runs from the CD/DVD drive -
though that, of course, impacts performance. Linux will be immune to said
virus, and even if it weren't, the CD/DVD would not be impacted.

Re: Regarding Conficker tomorrow

Make sure that your PC is fully updated with Microsoft updates and make sure
that you have the latest anti virus definitions installed for your anti
virus software. You might also like to check your update history to see if
you have a security update for vista KB958644 which was issued in October.

Re: Regarding Conficker tomorrow

From what I have read, nobody is completely sure of what will happen, if
anything. It could be another Y2K scare, but then again it could be more.
They aren't even sure of the date that it will go off. All that they know is
that it is set to be activated 4/1/09. Many PCs are already infected. Some
claim that over 5 mill PCs are infected are just waiting for the date to be
activated. The best defense is to have all you safe guards up to speed and
all your programs current with all the updates. Today I went to OpenDNS and
signed up. Hope this helps.

Why not just set your computer date forward to April 2 (:>)

Won't work if Conficker.C attempts to launch "updates" (which is scheduled
on Apr 1) that it misses at a later time.

I think this news is blown out of proportion but I may be wrong. We'll see
if we're still here tomorrow :-)
