Re: GUYS RC2 IS not RTM Also when RTM comes out we need new beta keys previous beta 2 wont work

All beta builds (including RC1 and RC2) will stop working on the 1st of june
2007 beta keys will work till then
RTM will be retail and beta keys will not work on it

it is also likely that you will not be able to upgrade from RC1 or RC2 to
the final version you will probably need to do a clean install

These evaluation builds are all timebombed to stop working you can find out
the exact date and time they will stop working by typing "winver" in the run
command
And it will be most likely that the beta keys will be blocked by MSFT after
the 1st of june 2007

RTM **IS** the gold version.

Nothing is done to RTM after is attains this designation. RTM = Released to
Manufacturing, maybe within hours of attaining that designation. After 5
million have been pressed, they are not going to stop the presses to change
the code to add anything new.

There may be some differences between gold and rtm but essentually it's
still going to be the same code
From what has been said RC2 is pretty much the end of the line for public
testing

yes will you are right RTM is the last for testing but gold is the final
version and beta testers may or some of them may get the final gold
depending how active and good bug reports and feeedback they gave to the
beta of vista.

RTM is not for testing. RTM is when the testing is done.

What part of the concept of Released to Manufacturing (O.K. guys, lets
produce this!) do you not get?

Does RTM code get out? It has happened. But bug reports will not be accepted
as it IS being manufactured as it is.

Yes, well I'm hoping they don't give them to those people who sent in
dozens of the same report over and over just to get a raised status like alot
of "bad" beta testers do. Rather of someone has submitted the same bug report
multiple times they should (hopefully) look for the ones submitted over a
period of time, instead of say 20 in 2 minutes. I can assure you I've seen
plenty of people do that with beta versions of games, and they are the ones
who get rewarded with a free full version. Which seems to be rewarding
dishonesty. Heres to hoping Microsoft doesn't fall for people who do that
kind of thing. (raises glass in a toast)

RTM = GOLD

They are NOT 2 different versions.
