unzip a file in windows vista

I searched for two days trying to figure out how to unzip downloaded files in
windows vista. I tried several things that I read about in my searches, right
clicking to avail, there is not an extract option. Oneoption caused my
computer to freak out by continuously flickering the internet explorer
window, leading to no other option than to turn the computer off and restore
it. I finally found the answer today and wish to share it.
To open a .zip file in Windows Vista.
-Save the file to my documents
-right click on file
-click open with (Click the box to always use selected program to open this
type of file
-click browse
-under folders on the left side of the screen under computer OS C: click
windows
-scroll down and click explorer
-windows explorer will now show up in the window as an option to open the
zip files!
Hope this helps at least on person out!

Re: unzip a file in windows vista

Hello Christine,

If you have to do this everytime that you want to open a ZIP file, then your default assiciations are not set correctly for the built-in ZIP feature in Vista. The tutorial below will restore the default built-in ZIP feature associations in Vista so that you can open a ZIP file where you like by either double clicking on it, or by right clicking on it and clicking "Extract all" or Open.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
