"XPLAY" by Mediafour?? No iPod.

I got a popup message > "Windows Desktop Manager Stopped working" and mentioned check for solutions Online, etc. When I checked > Window appeared advising problem caused by xplay... created by Mediafour..." and suggested I download and install the xplay Update ver 3.11. There was also some mention of an "iPod update". I do not have an iPod, nor do I have any idea what this "xplay" thing is.

I am running Vista Home Prem 32-bit, if that helps.

Any ideas what I should do? Thanks.. [sorry, I'm a sucker for smileys]

Same problem her, no ipod either. Very annoying. Googled it and no
indications of malware but no solutions either.

Re: "XPLAY" by Mediafour?? No iPod.

Same here. Why the heck are we getting this error? Is this a driver
that's built into Vista? I'm a little (well, more than a LITTLE)
concerned that there are drivers actually RUNNING on my machine for
hardware that I do NOT have. There's no reason for this driver to be
loaded at all... and hence, no reason why we should be experiencing
problems associated with it. I'm more than hesitant to install an
"update" to a driver I don't need and don't want just so it'll stop
crashing. Isn't there an option to just remove it altogether?

I have no ipod nor an iphone (no Apple hardware at all, except an 18
year old Mac IIvx in my garage, collecting dust).

My System:
-------------
Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit.
4GB RAM
2.1TB hard drive space:
- 3 internal SATA hard drives
- Several External USB hard drives
Intel Core2 QuadCore 2.4Ghz

I do connect my Windows Mobile 6 phone to my PC frequently... wonder
if that's triggering this driver?

FYI: no xplay.exe here. I do synch with an iPod and I do play an occasional
QuickTime file too.

So it is a mystery.

Re: "XPLAY" by Mediafour?? No iPod.

I contacted Mediafour.com's support website about this. Apparently it's
a Microsoft mistake. Here's what they told me:

"Microsoft has erroneously linked one of our products (XPlay) to a
failure that occurs in another vendors software application. The
"Problems Reports & Solutions" feature in Windows Vista (and Windows 7)
checks with Microsoft servers to gather the data for the report it
displayed to you. The error is in the data they store on their servers.

We have worked with Microsoft to correct this "Solution" from their
systems, and they are in the process of doing so."
