| | cannot set DPI (dots per inch) .. Hi, I am setting up my vista machine. I would like to change my DPI (dots per inch) on my screen. So, I go to my desktop's Personalize -> Display Settings -> Advanced Settings. As the Vista help says, I should be able to see a tab called "Scale (DPI)". But I only see tabs "Adapter", "Monitor", "Color Management", etc. My graphic card is NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700. Is it a graphic card related issue? I don't think it's a monitor issue since I was able to set DPI using my old XP machine and the same monitors. Any help would be appreciated. JD |

If there are no resolution changes possible, either your video card or your monitor has been detected improperly and Windows doesn't think they support other resolutions. |

It's under my desktop's Properties -> Display ->Settings -> Advanced Settings -> General tab -> DPI setting. I have been counted on it for many years. Now I suddenly found out it is missing from my new Vista machine. This powerful machine (with 16gb ram) shouldn't have a video card that doesn't support dpi setting. I would rather choose to not change the screen resolution. I would like to squeeze more things into the dual monitors while have text big enough for reading. JD |

| | Re: cannot set DPI (dots per inch) .. Relax, you don't have an issue. Click on the Start orb, Select and open up 'Help and Support', in the search box at the top of Help and Support type in dpi then click the search icon. Windows will open the search results page in Help, for dpi with links, click on the link that reads, Make the text on your screen larger or smaller. These are the direction you are looking for. You need to read all the options on this page and open any links and read them too, before changing DPI settings. There are other options in the Accessibility options that you may like better. Some of your applications may offer zoom options. Just remember to make only small changes and test them to see if its what you want, when going to higher DPI. You can get your self into a tight spot if not handled correctly. Its possible to get stuff to large for your current screen resolution and if you get things to large you may not be able to see the OK button or the Restart button etc. That's a good reason to use the keyboard to make your selections in DPI dialog, (practice) and note them. That way if you do get in a fix you can make the changes to fix DPI to a lower setting with out a mouse/clicker. | | Re: cannot set DPI (dots per inch) .. None of these. As I said, as soon as I open the main Personalization screen there is an option to set the DPI ("Adjust Font Size") on the Personalize dialog screen.
