USB CoreMicro Flash drive hangs system

When I plug a 2.0 GB flash drive in my USB port it virtually hangs my machine.
Eventually it will respond, maybe 5 - 10 min later, but ever command takes that long.
It works on XP and Vista 32 bit. Any suggetions?
Thanks

If that is the only drive that does that, it's time to buy a new drive.

Of course, you'd have to transfer the contents from the old flash drive
using one of the other computers :-)

Does it hang on both systems or just one OS? I've had problems with
old flash drives plugged into Vista, and new ones (with bundled
features and programs) on my XP machine. It's probably rooted in the
old 1.1 and new 2.0 USB standards, but at today's prices it's not
worth trying to correct. I bought some new ones, use the old drives
for short-term back-ups on my XP machine and the new ones on Vista.
The ones that work on both machines are used to do file transfers.
