| | Jet Database Engine on Vista and Visio 2007 Hello, I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. From the original DVD, I created a smaller DVD image by using vLite, removing some of the features I do not need, in order to have a smaller Vista. Then I installed. I removed the "Jet Database Engine" component also. The problem I'm having is that by removing this component I cannot get the setup of Visio 2007 properly complete. It stops and never completes. It says: (translated from Italian) Error 1919... error during configuration of ODBC data source Visio Database Samples. Error ODBC 13... " I just tested on a virtual machine that if I just remove with vLite the "Jet Database Engine" out from Vista, I get this error while installing Visio 2007. Is there any solution to bypass the error or to separately install the "Jet Database Engine" withouth having to re-install all of the operating system ? Thank you much |

| | Re: Jet Database Engine on Vista and Visio 2007 What other problems are you going to run into 4-5 months down the road because you installed a non-standard version of the operating system? Reinstall the full operating system, all service packs and all updates and be done with it. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "Casper" <giovanni.pedone@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:40a03aa0-f261-45bf-b12a-fd406ac5e6ee@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello, > > I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. > > From the original DVD, I created a smaller DVD image by using vLite, > removing some of the features I do not need, in order to have a > smaller Vista. Windows Media Center Natural Language all the printer drivers .... And sad you get no chance to choice at install time ![]() Anyway, I made a test by creating two virtual machines: - the first with the standard o.s., including Jet. Visio 2007 setup is fine. - the second where I stripped off the Jet Database Engine, and only that one. Visio 2007 setup gets the error. I will proceed according to your suggestion by reinstalling the default, but would like to ask if there is any chance to install the Jet Database Engine as a stand-alone package on Vista. Thank you ![]() |

| | Re: Jet Database Engine on Vista and Visio 2007 MSFT does not recommend using any tool to strip out applications from Windows Vista prior to installing it on your system, as it may affect your ability to download future Windows updates and service packs, and may cause your system to become unstable", the company said in an e-mail to CNET News.com. Microsoft doesn't recommend creating Vista 'Lite' http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-9861474-56.html This could be making it tough to get what you want done. I'm not preaching, and if were familiar with v-lite, and knew how to get your Visual database engine working, I'd tell you. But you're probably confining yourself to the smaller population who both uses Visio and uses V-lite at the same time. Why not try the visio group or the multiple visio forums on the web like the excellent one at http://www.wopr.com/lounge? | | Re: Jet Database Engine on Vista and Visio 2007 There's a list of Jet-related libraries in Microsoft's support article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239114). See the *Files in Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Update Rollup 1* section. You may be able to copy these from a non-hacked-to-pieces Windows installation and regsvr32 them manually. No guarantees though. - Rafael Casper wrote: Quote: > Is there any solution to bypass the error or to separately install the > "Jet Database Engine" withouth having to re-install all of the > operating system ? |

| | Re: Jet Database Engine on Vista and Visio 2007 <grin> OK! You have the files. What about the hundreds/thousands of registry entries that are almost surly needed also? Lord, it's just easier to do a standard install. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "Rafael Rivera" <"[firstname]"@withinwindows.com> wrote in message news:eVrBeib0JHA.4800@xxxxxx Quote: > There's a list of Jet-related libraries in Microsoft's support article > (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239114). > > See the *Files in Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 > Update Rollup 1* section. > > You may be able to copy these from a non-hacked-to-pieces Windows > installation and regsvr32 them manually. | | Re: Jet Database Engine on Vista and Visio 2007 I will try that on a virtual machine just for fun :-) I agree with you it's not safe enough to do on the "production" daily sistem :-) By the way these are the components I wished to remove, if that was safe to do: It would be nice if microsoft allowed to choose at install time or any time thereafter.
