| Guest | anyone read C-Net this morning Vista not ready for prime time http://reviews.cnet.com/4326-3672-65...ml?tag=nl.e501 Microsoft is beyond beta for Windows Vista. The latest release candidate, Vista RC2 build 5744, is supposed to be good enough to hand over to hardware manufacturers so that they can start building systems around it in advance of the OS's launch. We loaded up RC2 and unfortunately encountered numerous minor graphical glitches and a missing feature. So we expect to see at least one more interim build and perhaps even another release candidate, if Microsoft is to stay on schedule. For a look inside, see our First Take. | Guest | Re: anyone read C-Net this morning This was posted by Lang Murphy yesterday, in response to another person who was quoting the cNet article as being "authoritative". I guess you didn't read any posts prior to making yours! From Lang Murphy: Well, I'd take this review with a boat-load of salt... holy crap, those idiots claim the Program Compatibility Wizard is "missing" from 5744. And I quote: "It seems odd, given that program compatibility is a major headache for users upgrading to a new OS, that Microsoft would suddenly drop this feature." It seems odd to me that whoever wrote this review isn't banned from writing about anything related to computers anywhere, anytime. I guess 3 mouse clicks was too much for these "reviewers" to carry out. Uh... hello? Control Panel | Programs | Use an older program with this version of Windows ....brings up, guess what? Yes... the Program Compatibility Wizard. Now one could argue that sinister Microsoft went and removed the PCW icon from the desktop or the start menu and gee whiz, we don't have the time to take a look around and see if they put it somewhere else, we have to get our drivel posted to the web post-haste, we're a TECHNOLGY site for crap's sake! Major gaffe in my humble opinion... (and spare me the posts saying "Vista is a major gaffe dude!" Malcontents need not respond.) Only reason I could check this was I grabbed the wrong CD; when I thought I was installing a different build, I grabbed the 5744 CD by mistake. Lang Thank you Lang! -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! | Guest | Re: anyone read C-Net this morning Program compatibility is great and if it was really dropped it wouldn't show in the right click context menu either. And as for graphics, their fine as long as the video card has the right drivers and the card and is compatible This reviewer obviously didn't go to too much trouble to check all features and settings. I've been running vista since may this year and I've tried multiple configurations on three different pc's tried differnt Ram modules graphics cards ect.. And out of all the negative things that can be said about Vista, Graphics isn't one of them and certainly not the compatility wizard vista is good in those areas. Even UAC is good, it just takes a lot of getting used to The only thing I find with Vista is the default search settings the search feature is absolutely great and maybe one of the best advancements. But why on earth are the default settings set to search the user files only ? they should by default be set to search the whole system And also the network settings they took many hours to figure out and tweak before I could browse and successfully share files accross my network. the network works fine now but I believe the settings could have been a little more user friendly. ----- Original Message ----- "mikeyhsd" <mikeyhsd@sport.rr.com> wrote in message news:%23X%23GViS8GHA.4776@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl...
