Vista Toolbar AutoHide Doesn't work

Hello all!

I have Vista SP2 32-bit on an HP dv6880ee laptop.

I keep a toolbar on the right which contains shortcuts to all my programs. I've set it to auto-hide so whenever I need to access a program I can do so by just moving my mouse there.

My problem is that when I connect an external monitor (in this case my T.V.) and use the 'extended desktop mode' the Auto-Hide feature stops working!

That basically means that Auto-Hide is disabled for the toolbar and if I go to enable it it remains disabled. I've removed and re-added the toolbar again (resetting all my manual sorting of the programs on the toolbar unfortunetely) fixing the Auto-Hide issue but it just comes back up as soon as I add the external monitor.

Please tell me how to fix this issue! Thanks

Greetings.

I've noticed a little bit of a bug with this too. What I've noticed in my
case is that if there is a shortcut / file / folder etc positioned
underneath where a toolbar extends out to, then the autohide works fine.
Remove all links etc from underneath it and autohide can stop working.

Hope that helps

Re: Vista Toolbar AutoHide Doesn't work

Wow. You might be right! I have nothing hiding beneath the toolbar (as it is on the right) thus probably why this happens.

I have found a small workaround (but under no circumstance a feasable one). If we move the toolbar to the top for instance and move it back Auto-Hide starts working again. But oh god it's as annoying as the auto-hide bug itself :P

So I hope someone finds a fix or something! The main reason I put a toolbar was so I could remove almost all icons from my desktop. Putting icons just so the Auto-Hide feature works is defeating the purpose in the first place, is it not?

Hope someone finds a fix! I'd hope the SP2 would do something but I was hoping too much My only hope is you guys.

Re: Vista Toolbar AutoHide Doesn't work

I also am quite annoyed at the autohide feature not working as advertised... So I tried what was suggested here, i.e., put an icon underneath where the taskbar is, and then tried not showing them as I don't want my desktop icons visible but that didn't work. So I then made them visible and it still didn't cause the taskbar to hide itself. Very annoying to say the least.
