Windows Mail (News)

(Vista Business)

Often when I reply to a poster their post is not prefixed with ">"
The poster before them only has ">" when they should have ">>" and I have to
put some sort of lame "********" between the end of their post and the
beginning of mine.

Why is this?

It might be under Tools -> Options -> Read tab ... I know I've seen it
somewhere. Or you could switch to Windows Live Mail.
