Sidebar

My Windows Sidebar contains:
en-US folder
Gadgets folder
Shared Gadgets folder
sbdrop.dll
settings.ini
sidebar.exe
wlsrvc.dll

My Friends Sidebar contains;
Gadgets folder
ExerienceCenter folder
Images folder
js folder

Both work O.K.
My friends sfc /scannow reports reports a problem.
The CBS,log reports that the sidebar settings.ini
file can not be repaired.

But there is none.

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

thank you, anne

Disable sidebar in taskbar, navigate to to C:\Users\<account>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar and remove settings.ini and then restart sidebar.System will create new settings.ini.

SFC manifest might be corrupted. Strange we rely on SFC to scan for corrupt
system files, but it can't kept track of them either.

Thanks for pointing our where the settings.ini file is.

I followed your instructions and then rebooted. The sidebar came up with a
couple of random gadgets. I closed them and created the ones I usually use.

I ran sfc /scannow and got the same result. Now I'm thinking I may have a
corrupt gadget.

I'm using myself as the one with the problem, but it's really a friend. I'll
have my
friend close all the gadgets tomorrow, rebuild the ini file again and give
sfc
another try.

Will let you and Tae Song know how this worked out.

Re: Sidebar

I think any non-system gadgets don't work properly, cause problems and you have to uninstall them (leave only default gadgets) + rebuild again settings.ini (my previous post)

If still no help try below:
Windows Sidebar - Gadget Not Displayed Correctly
Windows Sidebar will not Start in Vista

I want to thank you again for your help.

We still have the same problem.

Bottom line:

Windows Sidebar works perfectly, but I believe this version has a bug that
misleads the sfc into thinking there's a problem.

You're absolutely right.

Since the sidebar is working O.K.

Who knows.

This is the end of this topic and once again, thank you both.

Re: Sidebar

I'm having trouble with Sidebar. None of the gadgets work. The clock looks like a black hole with red minute/hour "hands" that never move. I've gone into Sidebar properties and removed all gadgets and then tried new ones. This did not help. Since none of the gadgets work, I assume it is an issue with Sidebar, not the gadgets. I've read some information on .dll problems but wanted some more information before trying to make those changes.

Any advice/recommendations?

Re: Sidebar

Have you tried all advices from this thread?
If you have non-default DPI try restore to default setting:

Right click on desktop>>Personalize>>Adjust font size and restore to 96 (if you have unlikely) +restart sidebar

This probably sounds stupid, but I don't seem to have such a file. I can not find a \Windows Sidebar file. I've used search as well as manually looking in my user file, but no appdata file for windows sidebar. Can I reload just Sidebar? If so, please explain how.

Thanks!
