"Use Printer Offline" keeps documents. . .

Hey:

An annoying problem hope you can help. Often, when I send a document to
print, nothing happens and then I realize that the "Use Printer Offline" is
checked. When I uncheck it, what is in the queue, then prints up. But it
will check itself again randomly. My wife and kids keep getting stuck, they
don't know how to fix it. ???

This is a laptop, wireless to a Linksys router and the printer is an HP
networked via Ethernet.

Thank you.

Is the printer kept on 24/7?

Possibly if you reboot with the printer off this problem would happen.
Although I'm skeptical of my own answer...

My printer is a Canon all-in-one which is kept on 24/7, but sometimes when
I try to print to it I get the message "Printer in use" or some such. Power
cycling the printer clears that message.

I think it occurs after I've used it stand-alone to copy something, but it
doesn't always fail...
