How do I Increase Gaming Performance

Hello All,

I would really appreciate any assistance. I have a Dell 710H2C, Quad
Core, 4GB RAM (soon to be 6GB), 2 striped 10,000 RPM HDD's, 2 Nvidia
8800 GTX SLI video cards. I am an avid World of Warcraft and
Counterstrike player. I want to improve the performance of my system.
Frame rates stink when the graphics are maxed. This system should be
preforming a lot better. Sometime frame rates drop to 20FPS. Been
reading a lot of stuff on-line about improving performance. First off
when I run SLI mode games usually lock-up. Been told by Blizzard tech
support that they don't support SLI. Ready to pull my hair out! Please
help?

Re: How do I Increase Gaming Performance

Apparently, your Dell 710H2C originally shipped with 4GB of 667MHz DDR2
SDRAM. Replace this slow RAM with 800MHz RAM for faster performance.

Get a Geforce 295 GTX, SLI on a single card or even two for quad SLI if
money is no object. It will set you back about $1100-$1200 though for two
cards.

If you're not going to use SLI or can't because of compatibility, then you
could go with Geforce 280 GTX. I don't know the exact performance level,
but a single Geforce 280 GTX should be near the performance of 2 8800 GTX
running in SLI mode.

Geforce 280 GTX are under $290 a piece. You could buy another 280 later and
trounce your 2x 8800 GTX SLI mode into the ground. Easily.

As the others have said there is not much more that you can do that you
currently are not:-
You could opt for a faster CPU and GPU and RAM as has been advised -
you have some of the fasters HDDs that money can buy, the resolution
that you are gaming at plays a huge part in this - if you are trying to
run those two cards on a huge panel with all the AA and AF on MAX then
you wont manage it.

If you need anymore help let us know.

To run WoW in SLI and have it work you must disable triplebuffering in the
graphics options in the game it slows it down.
Setup a custom profile for WOW in the Nvidia control panel

use alternate frame rendering 2 instead of split frame.
set Vsyc to always on
leave all other settings to let app decide.

This should get you 40 - 60 FPS average. These settings worked fine for me
with 2 8800 GT's

Make sure you use the MB , GPU drivers from the manufacturer, not Dell.
Blizzard tech doesn't need to support SLI...nvidia does.
Check the settings for World of Warcraft in nvidia control panel.
For sli...AFR1, or AFR2 usually work best.
You could also try single GPU if SLI locks up no matter what.
