Create System Restore point fails - Vista Home Premium

I'm in the process of rebuilding my wife's Sony Viao after Sony reimaged the
HD (Vista Home Premium) and got to the point where I wanted to create a
restore point. This attempt failed, I went into SAFE mode and tried again and
I get a message "The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not
working. For more information view the event log. (0x81000202).

I go to the Event Viewer and it fails "Event Log service is unavailable.
Verify that the service is running."

When I go to the "Services" I don't see any entry for the "Event Log" - what
should I be looking for? How do I get the system restore working?

Hi jgt,

You might try this ( if you haven't already ) :

Scroll down the Services list to "Volume Shadow Copy", double click on it and Start it, then rt click, select Properties and set Startup type to Automatic.

Also check that "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" is started and set to manual.

Hope it helps

Re: Create System Restore point fails - Vista Home Premium

The "Volume Shadow Copy" was not correct so I changed it. Still I could not
restore and as I went through the page Peter suggested the hole seemed to be
getting deeper. Because I was so early in the restore I just reimaged the HD
and started fresh. This time it worked.

As I inch my way forward through the rebuild I keep creating restore points
just to ensure it is working.

Thanks to all who tried to help.
