That's not the problem...movies play just fine. The issue is a driver conflict when you browse a folder with icons that show preview images of the mpeg file within the icons. If you change the display to list, detail, or small icons where there is no preview image of the movie, then there is no conflict and the service continues to run properly. Switch to large or medium icons, or tiles, and the service will immediately crash with an error when trying to render the preview image in the icons. This is a problem with the drivers provided from Nero. If you do a custom install of Nero and do not install the video and extra plugins, just the basic burning software, then Vista seems to work fine. It's obviously a driver conflict that Ahead overlooked - which is odd, because the default view is tiled icons which most people would have set in explorer. This happens with RC2 as well. |

| | Re: Problems using Nero 6 and 7 Could you give an example of the type of file to which you refer and possibly a place to download one, or how you got it? Are these videos you made, or something else. There are many different types of mpegs. Perhaps, even the one you have is corrupted. Any type of MPEG will cause the problem - I've got some from Enchanced CDs (music video clips), some from DVDs and some were created when importing DVD recorder discs into Ulead Movie Factory. It doesn't matter which folder the files are in, or how many there are. As soon as I browse to a folder containing MPEGs the error appears immediately > > Clark > > "Brian Wescombe" <brian.NOSPAMwescombe@PLEASEntlworld.com> wrote in > message news:dm11h.21780$gO3.5040@newsfe7-win.ntli.net... >> Bill, I've installed Nero 7 with just the burning ROM program and Recode >> enabled during Setup, but I still get the error with MPEG files. >> Any ideas? Hopefully they'll issue a fix before long Whoa...I thought I had it working ok but you're right, the problem exists even when I disable installing everything except Burning Rom. No ideas...we'll have to wait for Ahead to produce a fix. I'm surprised they missed this one...it's very obvious. |

| | Re: Problems using Nero 6 and 7 Well, I will try to reproduce your problem, but for now, you might take a particular mpeg and put it in a separate folder and then try to browse to it. If it locks up, try checking the files associations for that extension to see what is opening it. Since you say all mpeg, I am going to download an MP4 from the Nero site which is a movie trailer. I will see if it locks up. Clark "Brian Wescombe" <brian.NOSPAMwescombe@PLEASEntlworld.com> wrote in message news 841h.6380$RR2.2329@newsfe2-win.ntli.net...> Thanks for letting me know Bill. | | Re: Problems using Nero 6 and 7 Well, the mp4 file worked fine. Any other suggestions to track this down? Did you have any other versions of Nero Installed first and did you try to use the Clean Tool prior to installing the latest version? No, clean install of 7.5.7.0 and a clean install of Vista. The files will all play fine, it's when you browse to the folder containing them that's the problem. The problem only started when I installed Nero, after removing it everything was ok again. > > Clark > > "Brian Wescombe" <brian.NOSPAMwescombe@PLEASEntlworld.com> wrote in > message news 841h.6380$RR2.2329@newsfe2-win.ntli.net...>> Thanks for letting me know Bill.
