| | Virtual PC 2007 with Windows ME - Where to place virtual disk Am I correct in assuming that, for Windows ME to run in a Virtual PC 2007 window, the Windows ME virtual disk must be located inside a disk partition that is FAT32? On a test run, I tried to install WinME on a virtual disk in a folder that was in my normal Vista partition (NTFS), and it didn't get far. I tried placing the WinME virtual disk inside an FAT32 partition, and although I didn't finish the installation process, I got that far, with the WinME instalation screen having popped up and ready for installation. One other thing: Is it possible to place the WinME virtual disk inside a logical FAT32 partition? Or must it be a primary partition? -- Message posted via http://www.windowskb.com |

In fact, I would avoid FAT32 volumes regardless of them being on primary partition, logical drive inside of extended partition, or on a dynamic volume. The only place I tolerate FAT32 is on USB flash drive. |

The only place I tolerate FAT32 is on USB flash drive. let you know. First time I tried to install WinME on a virtual drive in Vista, I didn't get far. I even tried to format the virtual hard drive file inside my VPC2007 window, and still the WinME setup routine wouldn't start. It worked when I placed my virtual hard drive in an FAT32 partition. -- Message posted via http://www.windowskb.com |

Two points here: 1. 137GB is *not* the limit for a FAT32 partition. It can support much larger partitions, but you need two things to support a drive over that size: a. A motherboard with a BIOS and controller that supports 48-bit LBA (or alternatively, an add-in controller card that does). b. At least SP1 of Windows XP. 2. Regardless of the size of the partition, a file on a FAT32 partition can not be larger than 4GB, as Tim Slattery says above. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
