Re: install XP after Vista on same partition

No, you need to create a separate partition for WindowsXP. I even have 2
partitions for a single OS (Vista Ultimate), not to mention 2 OS's.
They separate expensive CAD softwares from OS and less expensive/regular
applications. The former one is finicky and eats teremendous hardware
resources and I just wanted isolation.

In your case it's not even a matter of convenience, it's a requirement - do
create 2 partitions.
Modern partitioning tools allow dynamic partitions so no need to wipe disk,
repartition and reinstall Vista+XP; instead you can bite/squeeze a new
partition out of an exisiting (maximum size) one by reducing that existing
to smaller size.

If the OP is planning to remove Vista anyway, I can't understand why he just
doesn't backup data and format and install XP! Instead of all this faffing
around. He could have done all that in the length of time this thread has
been going!
